Description of Duties:

The Research Foundation of SUNY, a private, not-for-profit organization managing sponsored program activity for the University at Albany, College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CSNE, http://cnse.albany.edu/) is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Director, Strategic Development and Economic Outreach.  Reporting to the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering’s (CNSE) Vice President of Strategic Development and Economic Outreach, the successful applicant will have the responsibility for supporting the implementation of an aggressive business development and economic outreach strategy to advance CNSE’s global educational, research, development, technology deployment and economic growth initiatives. Implementation of strategic priorities will require working in a team environment with faculty and staff supporting the initiation, development and on-going partnership relations for projects and programs with critical stakeholders, including corporate partners, national laboratories, government and economic development agencies, faculty and students. The position will assist in the management, implementation and coordination of CNSE strategic development and economic outreach plans.

The successful candidate will play a supporting role in identifying, developing and maintaining strategic outreach and business development initiatives for targeted industry applications, emerging technology drivers and evolving deployment platforms.  Emphasis is on implementation of multi-discipline, multi-dimensional strategies targeting applications including aerospace, defense, homeland security, transportation, healthcare, energy and environmental control; emerging technology drivers including nanopatterning, processing and metrology/characterization; and, evolving deployment platforms including nanomaterials, advanced packaging, and nanosystems. Candidates should address their ability to work with culturally diverse populations in their application materials.

Perform all relevant and required tasks supporting the initiation, development and on-going support of industry, university and government partnerships to maximize the generation of projects, programs and initiatives leading to funding and business opportunities for CNSE within the internationally competitive R&D and higher education communities. These tasks include, but are not restricted to, identifying and developing consortia, teams, alliances, programs and projects in targeted areas with industry and government partners; preparation of reports, memoranda and proposals associated with projects and programs; participation in business development meetings on site and in the field; development of critical outreach materials, proposals, presentations, and memoranda; and participation in the development, deployment, and attendance of workshops, seminars, conferences, exhibits, and trade shows.

Minimum Qualifications:

Incumbent must have a Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university accredited by a USDOE or internationally recognized accrediting organization; excellent analytical and communication skills; a minimum of five years progressively responsible experience with an emphasis on communications; must have experience in establishing new initiatives and strategic marketing. Preferred Qualifications:

Most recent years preferably in academic and governmental outreach and public communications or other relevant project and program management experience; such experience should preferably include preparation of focused analysis leading to written marketing materials utilized in business development;
