FUNCTION & SCOPE:

The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for laptops, desktops, servers, network and infrastructure support in a diverse and complex customer environment. Under general supervision, monitors and maintains the server systems including storage area networks (SANS) and direct attached storage (DAS) on a day to day basis including all backups; configures network servers including installation of network and workstation operating systems; upgrading hardware and software as necessary, troubleshooting and repair of network and server hardware and software issues; implements end user network services; assists with security access to the network; reports on installation and maintenance of networks, servers, software, devices and user services; arranges necessary repair of hardware and/or software; provides hardware/software and documentation to users as needed; runs system reports; maintains up-to-date technical knowledge of Information Technology systems and methodologies. Knowledge and troubleshooting of UNIX and Linux a plus. Reports to the IT Manager.

DESCRIPTION of JOB DUTIES:

  • Monitoring and maintaining the network and server systems including storage area networks (SANS) and direct attached storage (DAS).
  • Maintaining and testing backups of all server and laptop systems.
  • Installation of network and workstation operating systems.
  • Obtain pricing for hardware and software; upgrade hardware and software as necessary; move and/or unpack and install hardware as received.
  • Troubleshooting and repair of server hardware and software issues
  • Implementation of end user network services (i.e., printing, disk quotas, user accounts).
  • Assist with security access to the network.
  • Documentation and reporting on the installation and maintenance of servers, software, devices and user services; compile and present system reports.
  • Arrange for necessary repair of hardware and/or software.
  • Provide hardware/software and documentation to users as needed.
  • Interacts with various individuals and groups such as customers, system users, management, vendors, consultants and other technical support staff.
  • Assist in completing projects assigned to IT as needed.

  • Monitor system logs and activity on all servers and devices
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly meetings
  • Advanced knowledge and troubleshooting of Windows Server 2000/2003
  • Ability and desire to learn new skills quickly
  • Effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the
    organization
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer and internal information
  • May lead or guide the work of other staff engaged in similar functions
  • Managing and maintaining virtual networks including network integrity and security

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires a Bachelors degree with relevant coursework and 3 years of experience with Windows Server 2000/2003 Operating Systems design/administration and security; 3 years of experience in Windows Desktop Operating Systems and Desktop applications; Experience should include working with SQL Server, software firewalls, Symantec Anti-Virus (SAV), or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience working in a multi-vendor environment is a plus.
