Description of Duties:

The Inventory Specialist provides policy advice on property control matters to campus officials; coordinates the campus response to external control agencies; and develops recommendations involving property control policy. Additionally, the Inventory Specialist is responsible for affixing property tags on acquired assets; conducting the annual physical inventory of assets at and around the Albany campus; the accurate input of data into several individual database systems; and the safe and appropriate removal and disposition of surplus declared property. The Inventory Specialist will be responsible for utilizing laser bar code tag and reader technology. This position involves extensive physical activity including lifting and moving equipment.


Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university accredited by a US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization and have a minimum of three years progressively responsible customer service experience working in an educational, research or institutional environment. Candidates must be familiar with inventory process, techniques and regulations within a facility of similar size. Candidates must also have extensive computer experience with Microsoft software including Access, Excel and Word. Candidates must possess excellent analytical skills; have the ability to handle multiple priorities; the ability to coordinate multiple projects; handle daily interruptions and meet daily deadlines; demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidates must have good organizational skills, be self-motivated and able to work both independently and cooperatively in dynamic group settings. The incumbent must be able to lift objects up to 50 pounds and be able to transport equipment and travel between all on and off-campus locations.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given for knowledge of laser and bar code reader technology and database systems.
