RANK AND DISCIPLINE

QUALIFICATIONS

Contingent on final budgetary approval, the Political Science Department at Rockefeller College, University at Albany, SUNY, is seeking a new colleague in comparative politics.

Rank:  Assistant Professor.

Current plans call for hiring up to four new colleagues over the next five years in comparative politics and international relations, with a focus on human security, broadly understood. We expect to hire a comparativist, to start September 1, 2007, from one of the following areas: comparative security policy; comparative development/political economy; comparative legal; and constitutional regimes (particularly the relationships among security issues, civil liberties, and human rights); and the impact of new information technology and media on the behavior of state and non-state actors. We invite applications in any of these areas. A geographical focus on Latin America, the Muslim World, South Asia, or Africa would be a positive factor in the application. This initiative is part of a university-level commitment to make Rockefeller College a major center for scholarly, policy-relevant research and graduate and undergraduate education in global affairs.

Located in a major governmental center, the department has 22 full-time faculty members and offers degrees at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral level.

Teaching load is two courses per semester.

Ph.D. (from a college or university accredited by a US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization), by starting date preferred, but advanced A.B.D.s will be considered. Candidates should have demonstrated the ability to work with and instruct culturally diverse groups of people.  All applicants should submit a statement of interest, curriculum vita, a writing sample or publications, and any available evidence of teaching (such as syllabi and student evaluations).  Candidates should also arrange to have a full dossier (including graduate transcript and at least three letters of reference) sent to the address below.
