RANK AND DISCIPLINE

QUALIFICATIONS

The political science department at Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, University at Albany, SUNY, is seeking a new tenure-track colleague in American Politics.  Rank:  assistant professor.  Specialization is open, though we are most interested in candidates with broad, cross-cutting interests in politics and policy in the United States.  Candidates whose major research focus is on congress, the presidency, or the courts will duplicate existing faculty and may be less competitive.  An aptitude for and interest in sharing teaching responsibilities for the large introductory American politics class is of particular importance to the department.

Located in a major governmental center,
Rockefeller College is ranked among the top ten schools of public affairs in the nation. The political science department has 23 full-time members and offers degrees at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral level.  Thirteen (13) faculty members in the department focus on the broad area of American politics, including public law and public policy, and colleagues in the college’s Department of Public Administration and Policy, and the School of Criminal Justice and the School of Social Welfare also have associated faculty with strong political interests.  Additionally, there are opportunities for research affiliations with Rockefeller Institute of Government, and the Center for Technology in Government. The teaching load is two courses per semester.  Salary and benefits are competitive.

PhD (from a college or university accredited by a USDOE or internationally recognized accrediting organization) by starting date is preferred, but advanced ABDs will be considered.  Candidates should have demonstrated the ability to work with and instruct culturally diverse groups of people.  Applicants should submit a statement of interest, curriculum vita, a writing sample or publications, and any available evidence of teaching (such as syllabi and student evaluations).  Candidates should also arrange to have a full dossier (including graduate transcript and at least three letters of reference with contact information.)  Direct email inquiries to Miroff@albany.edu or mmalbin@cfinst.org.
