Brief description of duties:

The University at Albany, SUNY, invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Dean for the Department of Informatics, College of Computing and Information.  The Assistant Dean provides overall support to the Chair of the Department and to the Program Director of the Information Science PhD Program.  At the Departmental level, duties include teaching, daily administration of the Information Science PhD program; coordination of separate and joint activities of the Core and Affiliated Faculty within the Department, including regular and ad hoc meetings; developing the class schedule and assisting with assignment of graduate assistants and adjunct faculty; acting as liaison with the two other Departments in the College and with other offices around the campus; advising undergraduate Informatics minors.  At the College Level, the individual will lead the recruitment of an increasing number of women students in the College’s program, develop the Course Redesign effort, and oversee management of the College’s websites.

Qualifications:

To receive full consideration, candidates will have an earned doctorate from a research-level university accredited by a US DOE or internationally recognized accrediting organization, evidence of successful administrative and academic leadership experience; and teaching experience within a college setting.  The successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with various internal and external constituencies.  Eligible for a qualified (non-tenure track) faculty appointment; strong management and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to work well with administration, faculty and students of a wide variety of disciplines; experience in running meetings, setting agendas, and coordinating notes from meetings; very strong communication skills in both oral and written forms; previous job experience in student advisement; commitment to increasing the participation of women in technology across a variety of disciplines; strong web development skills; previous supervisory experience of students and staff.  Applicants must address in their applications their abilities to work with a culturally diverse population.
