Brief description of duties:

The University at Albany Libraries seeks a .5 FTE Technology Specialist for its Interactive Media Center (IMC), reporting to the Coordinator of the Interactive Media Center.  The successful candidate will install, troubleshoot and maintain hardware, operating systems and applications for both Macintosh and Windows platforms. The candidate will provide network and desktop support and configure security and software on public workstations in the IMC. The candidate will provide hands-on consulting services, including instruction in scanning, editing digital images, audio and video digitization, and Web and PowerPoint applications.
The Specialist will research, test and recommend software, hardware and computer purchases.  The Specialist will perform routine duties such as lending equipment, troubleshooting networked print activities, and writing technical documents for technicians and user guides for patrons.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:  Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or international recognized accrediting organization; experience administering Windows and  Macintosh environments, including installing software, configuring operating systems, securing hard drive and network access, and addressing levels of access; experience with multimedia editing and production on Windows and /or Macintosh platforms.  Applicants must address in their applications their abilities to work with a culturally diverse population.  Preferred qualifications: Library and/or teaching experience; Macintosh or Microsoft certification or equivalent experience (.e.g. ACPT, MCSA); knowledge of current and emerging technologies in digital and Web-based services and familiar with Web 2.0 social networking technologies.
