Brief description of duties: |

|
The Director will manage a central program
with one set of staff that cares for all research animals at UAlbany. The
Director will oversee the daily operations of the university’s Laboratory Animal
Resources (including budgeting and staffing; develop and implement a
campus-wide program of veterinary care and preventive medicine; develop and
implement training programs in animal
care for research faculty, staff, and students; consult in the design and
development of animal care facilities; provide clinical support for animal
research projects; and serve as a member of the IACUC in the review and
approval of animal research protocols to ensure compliance with all state and
federal regulations. The
Director will also be responsible for overseeing the merger of all campus
animal care sites into a single, university-wide Association for the
Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC)
accredited program and, thereafter, maintain that accreditation. |

Qualifications: |
|||||
|
·
A veterinary degree from an AVMA-accredited
institution or equivalent. ·
Be licensed to practice in at least one state
(preferably · Three years administrative/management experience and three years animal care experience in a lab animal teaching, research, or veterinary practice environment or equivalent combination of experience. ·
Experience using and handling live animals in a research environment. ·
Evidence of knowledge of at least two of the following
agency requirements in the housing and care of animals in teaching and
biomedical research: OSHA, USDA, OLAW, and/or AAALAC. ·
Experience developing procedures and ensuring compliance. ·
Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by
application materials. ·
The ability to collaborate and interact productively
with colleagues is critical, as is a commitment to the welfare of laboratory
animals. · A demonstrable record of leadership and ability to work collaboratively with culturally diverse populations in a research environment. ·
Proficiency with Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel. |
